Psycho is about a serial killer and it is remembered for its contribution to the horror genre.

These movies are so good that you will want to just send Halloween wishes to everyone and cozy up yourself at home and have a scary movie marathon.

2. Hereditary (2018)

Actors: Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford

Available on: Amazon Prime Video, Peacock TV

The story starts when Rose takes her partner Chris, a young African-American man, to their farmhouse, where a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth he could never have imagined.

It’s a thought-provoking film that will make you question your own prejudices and where you stand, if you stand at all, in this racially charged world.

5. The Witch (2015)

Actors: Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie

Available on: Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix

7. The Final Destination (2000)

Actors: Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Kerr Smith

One of its distinguishing features is the absence of a ghost or serial killer as the antagonist, as seen in other horror films. Its antagonist is “death” itself. So far, five parts have been released in this series. Death scenes in films depict how “death” manipulates various elements of the environment to track down its victims.

Even though this is not your typical horror movie, it is terrifying enough to leave you traumatized. I know I am every time I re-watch!

20. A Quiet Place (2018)

Actors: Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Millicent Simmonds

Available on: Paramount+, Apple TV, Prime Video

Description: This one strips horror down to its simplest ingredient: sound. A family survives in a world hunted by creatures that track by hearing, so every footstep risks their lives.

Dialogue is minimal, letting silence itself carry the tension. It's as much a family survival story as a monster movie.

21. The Babadook (2014)

Actors: Essie Davis, Noah Wiseman, Daniel Henshall

Available on: Shudder, AMC+, Sundance Now

Description: A grieving single mother and her troubled son are haunted by a sinister figure straight out of a children's book that appeared in their home.

Underneath the scares, it's really a study of unresolved grief and the strain of raising a difficult child alone. Widely regarded as a modern genre.

22. Talk To Me (2023)

Actors: Sophie Wilde, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird

Available on: Max

Description: A group of teenagers discovers that gripping an embalmed hand lets them briefly channel spirits, and filming the results becomes their obsession.

The lead is already processing personal loss when she's pulled into the game, which makes the fallout feel painfully real. Strong practical effects throughout.

23. Barbarian (2022)

Actors: Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, Justin Long

Available on: Max, Hulu

Description: A woman arrives at her rental home to find a stranger already staying there, and the film builds an unpredictable ride from there. Knowing little going in helps, since the plot reframes itself more than once.

A decaying Detroit house and darkly funny turns make this a modern horror talking point.
